Northern Lights Grow

Seeds planted December 23, 2021

Over the years, I’d heard about the Northern Lights strain, its excellence, its strength, and the other facets of its being. All things in good time, and when I saw Seedsman offering Northern Lights autoflower seeds, I decided to try an indoor closet grow. The transaction went flawlessly, and I popped the seeds on a cold day in December. In a sense, there is a special connection between the plants I raise and me that I can only explain as that of an ancient sage and an acolyte, and it is this seed, which goes back into the remotest reaches of time, that is the sage.

The photos document the growing stages of both plants, named nla and nlb. As can be seen, this was a very healthy grow, and it was limited only by my lack of pro growing skills.

And so I tended two feminized plants throughout their 75-day lives (in 10-gallon pots) in a 3 ft. by 5 ft. closet lined with reflective foil. Each one had her own led light source, with the excess being shared between them. That really helped the side branches develop better than I have ever seen before. I made just a few screwups that aren’t even worth mentioning. We had a very healthy connection from the start. Whew!

The intensity of the this connection is one measure of the strength of the flower. I consider any lovingly raised, freshly dried and cured flower to be goodness - the magically ancient medicine that soothes both body and spirit, and that comes in an infinite variety- whether dramatically brain-bashing like Sour Diesel, or more sedately cerebral like Northern Lights. We go on and on about the strains and what they do through our senses, and we are learning all the time more about what they do molecularly. This is where it’s at right now, and it seems like we are standing on a very old foundation of discovering more about life itself.

So with these kind of thoughts in mind, I rashly decided to skip the cure and just roll a thick doob to see what the taste might be. Having been straight for half a day, just a couple of hits were enough for me to sense it- like fast, which is a good sign in the short term. The smell is just so dopey, and I was immediately relieved to taste that as I inhaled the smoke. The sense of well-being expanded from there and turned into a pretty nice level of condition. The only thing left to wonder was how long-lasting is this euphoria? It turns out to be nicely uplifting, and for a decent amount of time. Which means that after an couple hours of toking and vaping, I managed to lose track of time- I forget how long for, but long enough for me to appreciate its power. Well, I’d give it a 7-8 in its overall effect. Of course I would. I loved watching and learning about it so much though that short of getting it tested, which I still don't understand how to even do, that range is little more than a fool's objectivity. It's just that my association with growing it allows me to be so much more receptive (and appreciative) to its effects, so at least to me it's a very real objectivity- in its own way.

I would like to thank Seedsman, the breeder of Automatic Northern Lights Feminized Seeds, and Seed Supreme for offering them for sale. I grew them indoors during a cold, upper midwest winter. When I get a chance, I look forward to giving them a go at outdoors as well.
