Your Taxes At Work

It never ceases to amaze me how public servants are allowed to use public funds to cover their collective asses. I have seen it done from the community level to the national level. It is a simple case of adding insult to injury. This is typical after-the-fact behavior by a bankrupt dominant society.

Like the thinly-veiled rationale of helping the Iraqis gain the benefits of fredom, the US used to do the same thing to Native people for generations. One example was the Boarding School system, where children were forced, under threat of punishment, to abandon their own culture and submit to indoctrination by the government. This kind of cultural invasion, whether through war or the subtle coercion of policies such as No Child Left Behind, is how the powerful are able to take what they want from others with impunity. After all- down the road the Supreme Court can just rewrite the meaning of the treaties.

I believe it was Sitting Bull who once said, "The White Man broke every promise he has made but one. He promised to take our land, and he did."
